The gua sha is a Chinese method used for healing. It has been done for centuries and has many advantages. I have implemented it into my night time skincare routine since the start of this year and have already seen positive changes to my skin.

Advantages of a gua sha

There are many advantages in using a gua sha; it gives your skin a glow and radiance, encourages lymphatic drainage and can eliminate puffiness, promotes circulation and can soften, lift and firm your skin. The gua sha also feels lovely as it gives your face and neck a massage and has a cooling effect due to what it is made from.

How to use a gua sha (beginners guide)

Step One – Prepare your face with facial oil to help the gua sha glide on your skin.

Step Two – Open your lymph nodes, you can do this by using your fingers in a circular motion 10 times. You do this on your armpits, collar bones, top or your cheek bones, inner brow bones and either side of the bridge of your nose.

Step Three – Using the ‘M’ shaped side of the gua sha, place you gua sha on your jaw line and follow it up to your ear, the down your neck

Step Four – Using the ‘M’ shaped side of the gua sha again,  place the gua sha on the apple of your cheek and glide it up toward your ear following your cheek bone.

Step Five – With the straighter side of the gua sha glide down from your bottom lip to your chin. With the same side of the gua sha glide it from the tip of your chin to under your jaw.

Step SIx – Using the straighter side of the gua sha again glide the gua sha from the collar bone to your jaw (making sure you do either side of your throat)

Step Seven – Glide the straight side of the gua sha from the bottom of your chin to your ear, making sure you go under the jaw.

Every step should be done on both sides of your face, for example doing both cheek bones. Each glide should also be done around 10 times.

Make sure you dol not press the gua sha too hard, its you should feel some dresser ut not pain.

It is important to always make sure that your gua sha is clean, and it should be cleaned before every use, as if not it can cause blemishes and blocked pores.
