Dermaplaning is something I love to do. It is a great way to exfoliate and brighten your skin. Dermaplaning has so many great benefits for you skin, by removing the dead skin and hair from your face it gives you super soft, glowy skin which absorbs skincare products better and gives you the most flawless base to apply makeup.

Dermaplaning is relatively straightforward to do, but these are my tips and tricks I’ve learnt along the way which has improved my results when dermaplaning. Sl if you want to add some tips and tricks into your routine or even start dermaplaning, keep reading.

Firstly let’s talk about tools. I like to use a facial blade because they are gentle on your skin and safer to use as a beginner. These are some of the ones i like:

Tip One

Where to dermaplane

I like to dermaplane my whole face and jaw area. I like to start from my left side at my lower jaw, then work my way up to my cheek bone and then do the same to my right side, chin, upper lip and forehead. You want to make sure that you do not do this around the eye area as the skin is softer and fragile.

 Tip Two

Go with the direction of your hair.

The hair on your face usually grows in a downwards direction. When you dermaplane it is important to follow this direction and move the blade in that direction. This is to avoid damaging your skin.

Tip Three

Do not over do it

It is easy to overdo it with the dermaplaning but it is important to only go over the section of skin once with the blade as it can irritate your skin. Dermaplaning should only be done every 6 weeks, as if it is done too often it can cause irritation and breakouts.

Tip Four

Cleanse

To prep your skin for dermaplaning, all you have to do is make sure your skin is clean. You can do this by doing your normal cleansing routine. For the best cleansing routine look at https://ohlaurel.com/skincare/. It is just as important to make sure that your skin is properly moisturised after you have dermaplaned as you skin can be sensitive. You can use a serum and moisturiser to do this. Tip Five

Let your skin breathe

Once you have dermaplaning your skin, it is best to leave your skin to breathe. After you have applied your skincare try and leave your skin free of make up and intense skincare for at least 24 – 48 hours. It is also advisable to avoid exercise saunas and chlorine etc. This is because your skin can be quite sensitive afterwards and can become quite irritated and break out if you apply makeup or other harsh products to your skin.

Tip 7

Nighttime

It is ideal to add this into your nighttime routine every 6 weeks, This is because it will allow your skin time to restore itself and not come into contact with irritants. It also allows the skincare to properly penetrate the skin without being disturbed.

Tip 8

Applying a facial oil

This is an optional step but can be beneficial especially for beginners. You can apply oil once you have cleansed your skin and just before you start to dermaplane. You just apply a small amount of facial oil to your skin and massage it in your face. This makes it easier to glide the blade across your face.

Tip 9

Reusing blades

It is advisable to use a different blade each time you dermaplane your skin as it is removing hair, dry skin and bacteria from your face meaning it can become blunt and cause the blade to not work as well and potentially harm your skin. It will also be covered in bacteria from your skin afterwards so can cause breakout etc if used again, It is best to change the blade after each session however depending on the blades recommended uses it can also be cleaned and used again.

Tip 10

Remove hair

When you dermaplane the blade gets a lot of hair and skin caught in it, so it is ideal to remove this after every swipe of skin. You can do this by wiping the blade on a cotton wool pad. This prevents the blade from getting clogged up and not performing as well.

Dermaplaning is amazing and I have seen such a difference in my skin since doing this. Remember to be gentle and look after your skin.
